How to Send In Your Core for an R&R Rebuild
If you ordered an R&R ("Rebuild and Return") engine, we need your original engine back to build your replacement. What you should send depends on your engine's fuel type – diesel and gas/LP requirements are different, so check the right section below before you ship.
Diesel Engines – What to Send With Your Core
For diesel engines, we need every component required to hot-run and test your engine after rebuild. Please include:
- Flywheel
- Bell housing
- Starter
- Intake and exhaust manifolds
- Water pump (no cooling fan)
- Oil dipstick and tube
- Crankshaft pulley
- Fuel system: injection pump, injectors/lines, fuel filters and their housings
Any additional items sent beyond this list will be boxed and shipped back with your rebuilt engine, subject to additional charges. Any missing items may delay your order.
Gasoline & LP (Propane) Engines – What to Send With Your Core
For gasoline and LP engines, send us the long block assembly only. Magna Engines does not remanufacture, price, or service the surrounding accessories.
Please DO NOT send the following:
- Flywheel, bell housing, starter
- Manifolds
- Dipstick
- Fuel system (carburetor, mixer, regulator, etc.)
- Ignition system (distributor, coil, spark plugs, wires, etc.)
- Accessories (cooling fan, alternator, etc.)
If any of the above is sent in error, it will be removed, boxed, and returned with your rebuilt engine. Removal and repackaging is billed at $125/hour, up to $250 per engine.
General Reminders
-
You have 45 days from receipt of your new engine to return your core – see our Core Policy for full details.

Your core must be able to rotate 360° and be in re-buildable condition.
- Questions about what to send? Call 833-373-3448 before you ship – we'd rather answer up front than delay your rebuild.
